As any culture grows, it develops its own unique history,



Barry Gordy knew this and started a label called ‘Motown’ which exemplified the merging and blending of many musical backgrounds and influences into an easily identifiable and highly marketable genre. Motown turned the industry on its ear by taking artists that had previously only been deemed as ‘influences’ and turned them into the ‘makers’ of the industry.
The music was the message, and the message was the music.


Without trying to make any comparisons from one cultural movement to another, the idea still stands that
a culture of its own will create messages of its own. And that could be a completely new sound if cultivated and developed.

Not to mention, a highly marketable one.

The question’s asked pretty frequently now, “What is gay music?”
The answer is “We don’t know...”

Yet.
